Should I Seal My Pavers?

CategoriesBlog

Should I seal my pavers? The short answer is yes, absolutely! You should seal your pavers, especially so if you live in Tampa Bay, Florida with our subtropical climate and elevated UV exposure from the sun. Perhaps you’ve just spent tens of thousands of dollars on a new paver driveway and/or pool deck, patio, etc and you’re not going to protect it? Or maybe you just bought a house and inherited a bunch of travertine, marble or brick pavers? That is like buying a new car and not having a clear coat over the paint. The paint would wear much faster and it would be crazy to not have that protective coating on the outside right? Your pavers are no different, and the sun’s powerful UV rays will wear them down quickly just like anything else resulting in premature replacement which is 10x more expensive than just sealing and maintaining the original pavers properly.

should I seal my pavers? Yes you should, look how beautiful this paver pool deck looks now. Plus it is protected from the elements

Sealing pavers can provide several benefits, including:

  1. Protecting the surface of the pavers: Sealing can help to protect the surface of the pavers from UV fading, stains, spills, and other types of damage.
  2. Enhancing the color of the pavers: Sealing can help to bring out the natural color of the pavers, making them look brighter and more vibrant.
  3. Reducing weed growth: Sealing can help to prevent weeds from growing in between the pavers, which can make your patio or driveway look neater and more well-maintained.
  4. Making the surface easier to clean: Sealed pavers are generally easier to clean because dirt and debris do not penetrate the surface as easily. This can make it easier to keep your patio or driveway looking clean and well-maintained.
  5. Increasing the lifespan of the pavers: Properly sealed pavers can last longer because they are better protected from the elements and other types of damage. This can help to save you money in the long run.
  6. Increase stability of pavers: Properly sanded paver joints to ICPI standards will help reduce paver shifting helping prevent costly repairs and premature cracking. When these sanded joints are flooded with the right breathable sealer they will harden up a lot, further increasing paver stability.

What is the cost of replacing pavers vs having them cleaned and sealed regularly by a professional?
The cost of replacing pavers can vary widely depending on a number of factors, such as the size of the area being covered, the type of pavers being used, and the complexity of the job. In general, however, you can expect to pay anywhere from $10 to $30 per square foot for the materials and labor to replace pavers.  On the other hand, the cost of having pavers cleaned and sealed by a professional can also vary, but it is usually WAY less expensive than replacing the pavers. You can expect to pay anywhere from $0.50 to $2-3 per square foot for professional paver cleaning and sealing services. So yes, you should seal your pavers every few years.
